Sothink HD Movie Maker Review

Sothink takes the thinking out of creating Blu-Ray and DVD movies from your videos. Use camcorder video, downloaded video, or any other video you have and create great looking movies that you can share with your friends and family.

Welcome to HD Land As more and more HD video come into our lives we will need a way to manage it and create our own HD movies for playback on our new high tech toys such as new Blu-Ray players, PS3, and even upscaled DVD players. As most of us know by now creating DVD movies is almost a basic feature now since all 7, Vista and XP installs contain Windows Movie Maker which introduced to the masses an easy yet basic way to create movies with your existing video.

Thinking in HD However what about those of us that have the new HD gizmos and demand onlyHD video? This year we are starting to see the first wave of HD video converter/editors for easy Blu-Ray or AVCHD creation. One such tool is from Sothink called HD Movie Maker. The first thing I notied about this software was the well laid out interface that didn’t look to overly done. Everything is where is needs to be.

Basically here are the steps involved to create a Blu-Ray movie:

  1. Load the videos you want on the final result

  2. Choose your burner, disc size (DVD5, DVD9, BD 25GB, BD 50GB), Video Dimensions, and Frame Rate

  3. Insert your Blank Disc and click the Burn Button

Now simply walk away or go to bed and when you get back to the computer you will have a disc ready to watch in your favorite player. Note: My first test took about 4 hours to burn a 2 hour avi upcoverted to AVCHD which took the full 4.38 single layer of the DVD. I am please to see that the quality from the original avi to the DVD was dramatic.

From the Developer: Sothink HD Movie Maker can convert and burn various formats of videos to Blu-ray Discs (BD) and DVD (AVCHD), and play them on Blu-ray players (including Sony PlayStation 3). Almost all kinds of videos are supported by HD Movie Maker including WMV, MKV, AVI, DivX, XviD, MPEG, MP4, QuickTime Movie (MOV, QT), Real Video (RM, RMVB), H.264/AVC, M2TS, FLV, etc, which can be coded to the high definition videos. This HD Movie Maker can burn videos to BDMV on Blu-ray Discs such as BD-R, BD-RE, BD-25, BD-50, etc. Furthermore, it also can burn Blu-ray movies into high-definition AVCHD on regular DVD including DVD+R, DVD-R, DVD+RW, DVD-RW. The outputs, also called BD5 or BD9, can be only watched on BD players or Sony PS3.

The user interface of Sothink HD Movie Maker contains six parts: Menu, Toolbar, File List, Settings Panel and Status Bar.

Sothink HD Movie Maker lets you easily create DVD movies from video files.
